As Moses one day was tending his flock
He saw a sight that gave him a shock
A flaming bush burning constantly
That’s strange he thought, I must go close and see
“Moses! Moses!”, a voice called out
“Here I am, what’s all this about?”
“Come no closer” was God’s reply
“If you do you will surely die.
Take your sandals from off your feet
You’re on holy ground, I’m here to meet with you.”
O hearing this Moses hid his face
Afraid to look at God
“I have heard my people’s cry for help
I want to rescue them now
You are the one I want to use
Trust me; I’ll show you how
I’ll bring you out; lead you on
Set you right when you go wrong
I am the present, the future, the past
The Faithful; True; the First; the Last
I’ll always be there for you.”
But Moses now asks “How can I go?
I cannot speak; I’m hesitant, slow”
“Simply trust me; I will show
Through my power how great I am.
What do you have there in your hand?
Your shepherd’s staff, just throw it down
Now, look around the staff has become a snake.
In faith reach out; take the snake by its tail
It will return to your staff once more.
Do you still doubt my power? You’re not quite sure
Take river water and pour on the ground
It will turn to blood without making a sound
But before this put your hand in your robe
Take it out again; it will be diseased
The second time it will be quite clean.
Now go to Pharaoh as I have told you
I promise I will be with you
I am who I am, always the same
I’ll lead you all to the Promised Land.
