Map & Sat Nav

There will be so many twists and turns
In my journey through life today
That if I have no map or sat nav
I shall probably lose my way.

I only have a vague idea
Of what this day may contain
But God knows exactly what will happen
So I’ll let Him lead; take the strain.

He’s provided me with a very good map
The Bible. It’s called His Word
But He also gave a spiritual sat nav
When the Holy Spirit was outpoured.

If I read the Bible I’ll know the way
God has already planned for me
And the Holy Spirit will keep me on track
However treacherous or steep it may be.

So before I set out I’ll read the map
But then when I’m on my way
My sat nav will guide me at every turn
Get me safe home at the end of the day.

Spiritual Milk

Watching my newborn grandson
Crying desperately for a drink
Keeping on till mum picks him up
And feeds him, leads me to think.

This is how I should constantly be
In my desire to receive God’s Word
A craving for the pure spiritual milk
That I might grow up in the Lord.

When I cry out for this nourishment
The Holy Spirit will satisfy me
And my salvation will develop
Into full spiritual maturity.

Word Seed Riches

The seed is the Word
God’s Word
Which needs to be sown
Hidden in good soil.

Nourishment comes from the hidden source.
Go into your room
Close the door
There you’ll find a store
Full of riches.

The tap root of faith
Reaches way down deep into God’s love
The smaller roots will spread
Be fed by God’s Word
In secret.

God Is Love

Because you are loved
Life is worth living
Because God is love
He is all giving
Even giving His Son
To be crucified for you
Now there’s nothing left for you to do
But accept what God in His grace has done
Come to Father God, through Jesus, His Son
The Gospel of John will show you the way
Won’t you please, for a month, read a portion each day?

Shaping

The power of very ordinary words
Marks and shapes my life
God’s Living Word
Does so very much more
For not only has it power to shape
But to hold and keep it there
So that I can live and always move
Within His tender care.
God also places my unique shape
Into His overall plan
In time and space
All by His grace
For now and eternally.

The Word

The Word – Jesus
Sent by the Father
Became flesh to be seen
Spoke to be heard and understood
Touched to heal
Brought life to the dead
Hope to the despairing
Wounded for my transgressions
Bruised for my iniquities
Beaten for my healing
Humbled so that I might be exalted
Emptied Himself so that I might be filled
Died to give me eternal life
Rose to overcome death for ever
Ascended to be my heavenly advocate
In heaven preparing a place for me
Will return for me in person
Sent His Holy Spirit in the meantime
Left me the Written word
Which is more enduring than earth & heaven
Will never pass away
Sweet to eat
Is active, sharp, cleansing
Revives and restores me
Is a light to guide me
Has been written to be read &obeyed

God’s Son

One Thing

When my mind is shaped by God’s Word
I am better able to serve the Lord
In sincerity, truth and humility
Sharing with others in simplicity
All that I learn reading day by day
Speaking God’s language when I pray.

Now I strain to reach the end of the race
When in heaven I’ll see Jesus face to face
Knowing I’m there only by God’s love and grace.

From My Window

From my hospital window I can see
A great expanse of sky – silvery
With an ethereal early morning haze
Giving hope of some warmer summer days.
So far this year June has been very wet
And although we need all the rain we can get
(As the winter this year was very dry) – yet
June is the month to store vitamin D
To build up the body physically
Replenishing where there is a lack
So that I can repel future bug attack.

From my window I can also see
The cathedral spire rise majestically
Pointing me upward toward the one
Seated on the right of the Father’s throne
Reminding me now’s the time I can be
Gaining strength spiritually
For the bugs I am fighting have no faces
But are spirits of evil in high places
Yet are defenceless when challenged by the Word
So I hold aloft my spiritual sword.

Open The Bible

Are you in the middle of despair?
Go to the Bible
You’ll find help there
Words that will comfort
Heal wounds of the past
Give hope for the future
Joy that will last.

God’s Word will release
Your dormant potential
Give a new zest for life
A witness that’s powerful.

So open the Bible
For in it you’ll find
An effective therapy
That will renew your mind.
