Persevere
Early morning
A woody wood pigeon
Heavy-weight dove,
With white outlined wings
And pristine necklace
Flies into the Scots pine
Seeking breakfast
Expectantly.
Ailerons yawing
Awkwardly lands
Cautiously advances
Staggering intoed
Along a slender branch
Which dips and sways
Flipping him downward
Unseemingly.
He briefly fumbles
Flutters
Rises efficiently
Soaring skyward
Returns moments later
Landing on a sturdier bough
To search for food
Determinedly.

The Extra Mile
THE EXTRA MILE
When I was feeling insecure
Didn’t know what to do
You completely changed your programme for me
Saying, “I will accompany you.”
You went the extra mile
And you did it with a smile.
Although you had other things to do
Friends you wanted to see
You kindly changed what you had planned
So that you could be with me.
You went the extra mile
And you did it with a smile.
You could have given me your time
But done it grudgingly
Yet you didn’t, you simply got on with it
And said, “Everything will be fine.”
You went the extra mile
And you did it with a smile.
So now, I would like to say to you
A big thank you from my heart
You will probably never appreciate
How much love you impart
By going the extra mile
And doing it with a smile.

Sill Sitting
When you decide to sit in the window
You will one day certainly fall
You have heard the Truth being spoken
But have chosen to ignore God’s call.
You are sitting half in and half out
In God’s Kingdom but in the world too
And it isn’t really working
Because you know what God wants you to do.
You have often heard God saying
“Trust in me with all your heart
Come to Me and I will give you rest
With Me you can make a new start.
There is nothing that is too hard for me
No sin I cannot forgive
Come inside, do not sit on the sill
Fall and die, come to me; really live.
I will carefully gather you up in my arms
Bring you in, all sins forgiven
I promise to walk with you all through life
Then fetch you home to be with Me in Heaven.

Perfection
Jesus said I should be perfect
This has often concerned me
But now my pencil has taught me
How exactly I should be.
For my pencil always does
What it was made to do
By simply allowing itself
To be gently held and used.
God made me in His image
And He just wants for me
To grow more like him daily
Pursuing love to bring Him glory.
