God of the Unexpected
I want to see
God at work
In unexpected ways
Not trapped
In my thinking
Limiting God.
Let me embrace
The change He is working
In me
So that I might see
The change all around.
Luke 5:36-39
I want to see

In unexpected ways
Not trapped

Limiting God.

The change all around.
Luke 5:36-39
Many and various and marvellous
Are your wonderful ways, Oh Lord
So when I am doubting, bewildered or confused
Direct me and challenge by your two-edged sword
Teach me to ask according to your will
To trust you, be patient – to be very still.
Thus with my life firmly focused on you
My present source of joy and future hope too
I shall know in your time and clearly see
The very special way you have chosen for me.
Psalm 32:8, 37:4
1 John 5:14
Hebrews 4:12
Realign me to the reality
That you’re with me every day
Wherever I am; whatever the time
In stormy weather or when it’s fine
Remind me you are always the same
The Omnipresent, Great “I AM.”
The language of love is God’s language
Which I can only hear when I’m still
It is then God can speak to me deep within
When I can come close and discover His will.
God desires so much to talk with me
To share His love in full measure
But if I’m too busy talking to listen
I’ll miss out on this wonderful treasure.
The treasure as well of hope, joy and peace
Of resting in God’s presence too
Just giving pleasure by spending time with Him
Instead of rushing round with so much to do.
So much hard work isn’t what God requires
With no time left to spend with Him
He just longs for me to glimpse His glory
So that less important things will become dim.
God really doesn’t like boxes
They restrict what He wants to do
He is the God of liberty
Of breakout and breakthrough.
If I try to limit God
Putting barriers where none should be
I will never experience God’s power
How exciting with Him life can be.
God can do exceedingly more
Than I can ever think or imagine
So I’ll let go, let God, trust Him and then
Be astonished by what will happen.
By observation
Through creation
I can know God
But only in part.
By meditation
Through contemplation
I can know God
Yet only in part.
Only through revelation
Divine communication
Can I better know God
By the Spirit of wisdom.
Know the glory of God the Father
Know the love of Jesus the Son
Know the power of the Holy Spirit
Fuller understanding of the Three in One.
Ephesians 1:17
God knows my name
Where I am
How to find me.
I am in time
God is in timelessness
I only know the present and past
God knows the future
I am on earth
In one place at a time
God is in heaven
Yet everywhere at once.
God is intrinsic love
My love is responsive
I am human
God is divine
God is holy
I am not.
God sees me
I only see
Through a glass
Darkly
But I do see.
God
Be my horizon.
When the pressure is greatest
Speed is the fastest
God’s hand feels heavy upon me
It is then He is forming
A vessel of honour
Holy, pleasing to Him.
Jeremiah 18:6
My God, my God
Why? Why?
Acute pain
Utter agony
Desolation
Forsaken
Why?
Father. My Father
Into your hands
I commit myself
Darkness to light
Despair to hope
Suffering to glory
No longer
Why?
Doing things as I always have
Stifles God’s unpredictable ways
If I listen and serve in obedience
I’ll be surprised and often amazed.
For God’s ways are unexpected
And if I just follow His Word
Wonderful things will happen
Which to me seem quite absurd.
With God all things are possible
I must simply trust and obey
Then I will see God at work
And miracles every day.
