Persevere

Early morning
A woody wood pigeon
Heavy-weight dove,
With white outlined wings
And pristine necklace
Flies into the Scots pine
Seeking breakfast
Expectantly.

Ailerons yawing
Awkwardly lands
Cautiously advances
Staggering intoed
Along a slender branch
Which dips and sways
Flipping him downward
Unseemingly.

He briefly fumbles
Flutters
Rises efficiently
Soaring skyward
Returns moments later
Landing on a sturdier bough
To search for food
Determinedly.

Count The Stars

Here today I go again
Trying hard to find
Solutions to my problems
Leaving God behind
And once again I’m doubting
That His promise can come true
So I need to lend my God a hand
See what I can do.

Then I hear God gently calling
I’m all you need, trust me
I will be your great reward
Just let go and you’ll see

Oh forgive me Lord again I say
I always seem to forget
That you have all things in control
I’ve hardly seen anything yet
So tonight I will look at the heavens above
Try to count the stars in the sky
Remember that every vow you keep
Will stop asking how, when and why.

Growing

In my garden
I soften the soil
Plant the seeds
Water daily
Get rid of weeds.

In God’s time
Plants will grow
Eventually
Fruit will show
For it is God
Who gives the increase.

Snowdrops

Today I saw nature’s tear drops
They were piercing through the hard earth
Delicate, small, glistening bells
Symbolic of a new birth.

I’m reminded that when my life seems hard
I can still shine through my tears
To bring encouraging joy and hope
Removing long, cold winter fears.

Early Morning Clouds

This morning I raised the blind
Heavy clouds hung in the sky
In the distance dark, leafless trees
As my looking passed through the trunks
A bright fire-like light was there
As I stood, wondering,it was gone
Then in blinding light the sun appeared
Rose from behind the black cloud
I had to lower my gaze
It was not a silver lining
But a dazzling golden glow
Was this a glimpse of heaven?

A Plastic Bag

Horrid, plastic supermarket bag
Floating in my stream
Turning sparkling water to ugliness
Shattering my dream.
Carelessly thrown without a thought
I’m sad that someone has never been taught
To notice the beauty all around
To listen to the lilting sound
Of birds in the overhanging trees
The whisper of butterflies, buzz of bees
If they had been taught I know that they
Would never have thrown that bag away.

Seeing God

From a heart that is pure I shall see God
In all that’s around me in the world
In a tiny flower or blade of grass
Through the vastness of the universe
God is revealing who He is
Giving me a perspective that fills
With God Himself.

For the skies proclaim the work of His hands
The perfectly made petals and blades
All declare without a word
The awesomeness of Almighty God.
Thus in countless ways, through endless days
With spiritual eyes I can perceive
My Maker and Saviour, the great Creator.

NOW

Enjoy today
This NOW in time
The track you are on
May be narrow
Long
Very entangled
Overgrown
But
Live in the present
Keep walking on
Look about
For very near
There are things to delight
Excite
Thrill
If you only take time
To appreciate
People
Places
Little things
Perfumes of flowers
Butterfly wings
That fill each moment
NOW.

When the track ends
Surrounded by friends
All the ups and downs
Twists and turns
Will have enriched
Refined
Enhanced your life
And looking back
You will say
God blessed my way
And now I can see
What happened to me
Was all meant to be
For my good.

Snowflakes United

A snowflake
Alone
Large or small
Moist or dry
Beautiful
Transitory
Fragile
Unique
Yet weak.

Snowflakes
Together
Bound to each other
Have power
To transform
Places
Things.

A Christian
Alone
Young or old
Fearful or bold
Beautiful
Transitory
Fragile
Unique
Yet weak.

Christians
Together
Bound to each other
In love
Have God’s power
To transform
People
Lives.

I am
As God’s snowflake
Beautiful
Unique
BUT
Am I
Alone – Fragile?
United – Powerful?
Strong or weak?

Epiphany

Was there?
Is there?
Only one star
That leads to the place
Where God incarnate
May be found?

Is there
Only one place?
One time?
Where I can find
Jesus
Emmanuel
God with me ?

NO!
For the guiding star
That gave light
Understanding
Insight
To wise men
Still shines
For me
Today.

God’s Word
Holy Spirit
Both give light
To lead me
Through the long, dark night
To where I may offer
My gifts.
In love
My self
Complete
To worship at His feet.
