Persevere

Early morning
A woody wood pigeon
Heavy-weight dove,
With white outlined wings
And pristine necklace
Flies into the Scots pine
Seeking breakfast
Expectantly.

Ailerons yawing
Awkwardly lands
Cautiously advances
Staggering intoed
Along a slender branch
Which dips and sways
Flipping him downward
Unseemingly.

He briefly fumbles
Flutters
Rises efficiently
Soaring skyward
Returns moments later
Landing on a sturdier bough
To search for food
Determinedly.

Hand Held

Jesus whispers
Can you hear?
My children
You are very dear
To me
I have you safe
Securely held
In my hands.

An indelible print
On my palm
Must comfort
Reassure you
Calm
And give you proof
Of my love
For you.

But more than this
No one can touch
Or snatch you out
So be confident
Do not doubt
When the storms rage
The winds blast
I have you tight
I’ll hold you fast.

No one
Anywhere
Can dislodge you
From my hands
Engraved with love
When I died
For you.
You have the promise
From my Father God
Who is greater
Mightier
Than anyone else
And I and my Father
Are one.

The Pebble

The stone that once was so jagged and rough
Is now rounded and gently smooth
It’s roughness is gone
It’s lovely to see
A beautiful object
Delighted to be
Counted among God’s treasures
It has suffered so much
Been beaten and smashed
As great waves crashed
Until it was almost broken.
But the Master Creator knew what it would take
To make a pebble that could be for His sake
And He never once took His eye away
From the object of His grace
And if I turn the pebble round
Engraved beneath it will be found
What God has promised to be.

“WITH ME”

The Prism

God refracts the light of His glory
Through His earthly prism of air
Forming rainbow colours
That I am able to bear.

From the violet of night
Through bright yellow of day
To the orange-red sky of setting sun
Of evening dusk when day is done.

The blue of heaven, the green of earth
These colours are around me
To my death from my birth
And God gave me eyes to see.

All I need to do is enjoy the colours
Being reflected through the prism
That, for the present, veils my sight
From the full splendour of heaven.

God knows I cannot now bear all His light
But once clothed in righteousness divine
All the fullness of God, in Christ
Will eternally be mine.

Just for now I will focus my gaze
On the prism of heavenly light
The seven colours refracted for me
Appreciate all their diversity.

Whenever I look at a rainbow or prism
I’ll remember your promise to me
That although now your light needs dispersion
Some day your full glory I’ll see.

Somewhere Over The Rainbow

Lord I see your promise
Stretched across the sky
Full of wonderful colours
And it answers my question why?

Why everyone is not destroyed
Because of our wickedness
But given new life through Jesus Christ
And so eternally blessed

The bow that touches heaven and earth
Reminds me of grace come down
The love of the Father through the Son
That in the ark I will not drown.

Your promise is quite certain
I need not wish on a star
For you are a faithful God and true
And will bring me to where you are.

To that place at the end of the rainbow
A place in heaven above
Where one day I’ll see you face to face
Know the full extent of your love.

God’s Promises

I have chosen and called you
So don’t be afraid
I promise to be with you
So never be dismayed
I am your God
I will strengthen and help
Always uphold
With my righteous
Victorious right hand.
