In the dark long before dawning
Waiting there because she was mourning
At a garden tomb a lone woman in fear
Turns round to see a gardener near.
Angels had wanted to know why she cried
Was she looking perhaps for someone who’d died?
The gardener enquired, “Why are you weeping?”
But then also asked her, “For whom are you seeking?”
“Sir,” she pleaded, “If you took him somewhere
Please tell me now, I’ll go find him there.”
The gardener who was Jesus spoke again
“Mary,” for of course he knew her name
It was her Saviour, her Master who was crucified
Now resurrected, very much alive!
The Master told her to go and tell
He was no longer dead but alive and well!
“God, my Father, is now your Father too
By my death and rising the way’s open for you.”
Mary’s life from this encounter was never the same
Once the risen Saviour had called her name.
Jesus later appeared, passed through locked doors
His friends were overjoyed to see their Lord.
He said, “Peace be with you now go to the world
Tell everybody what you’ve seen and heard.
You will not be alone for the Holy Spirit will be
With you, give you power, as you witness for me.”
