A Blackbird’s Song

Categories: Characters in the Bible, Nature

Early morning as I walked along
I stopped to listen to a blackbird’s song
His joyful trilling thrilled my heart
Gave my day a very good start.

Later when I heard about Jesus the Lord
Sitting on a well sharing a word
With a Samaritan woman who’d done wrong
I remembered the blackbird and his song.

For the message for her to change her ways
Caused her to stop and give God praise
Then just like the blackbird praised and flew away
The woman ran off to her neighbours to say
“Come meet a man, He is the Christ
The Messiah we have waited for, God’s sacrifice.

The woman received living water that day
That slaked her thirst, washed her sins away.
Because Jesus, in such a gentle way,
With no condemning word to say
Spoke to a woman who was despised
Revealed who He was, opened her eyes.

Today Jesus still says. “Come and rest
I am all you need. I’m longing to bless.
