Bereavement Support

Categories: Bereavement, Friends

I am broken into so many pieces
Will I ever be whole again?
Who can put me back together?
Relieve me of all this pain?

I feel my life is totally shattered
There are bits all over the place
I need someone to gather them up
Or I’ll disappear without trace.

Family and friends are around me
They are all well-meaning I know
But no one seems to understand
And my tears continue to flow.

After several months of suffering
I met people who understood
Who’ve been touched by the very same feeling
The great pain of widowhood.

These people then became my friends
With whom I was able to share
The depth of my bereavement
So the pain became easier to bear.

‘Sorrows shared are sorrows halved’
Or, at least, that’s what they say
And certainly through mutual support
I feel I can face a new day.

A new day when I’ll be able to stand
Without my loved one by my side
Walk confidently into the future
Day by day lengthening my stride.

So, I’m very thankful to those who take
Time out to listen and share
In turn I want to listen to them
To show them I really care.
