I just rescued a struggling bumble bee
It kept falling over on its back
It tried to fly
Hadn’t the strength
Crept along the floor
Tried again
In vain.
Such a beautiful creature
A bottom of dark orange velvet
A shiny black face
Fine gossamer wings
Delicate legs.
I was able to observe it closely
I had never been near one so still
Seen one so clearly
I even spoke to it
Felt such pity for it.
I carefully picked it up
Carried it into the garden
Placed it on a lavender bush
Watched as it searched
Sucked up sweetness
Each tiny floret a feast.
Revived
Energised
It flew
Up and up
Delighting in its freedom.
I was thrilled to see it
Did it understand what I had done?
I don’t know
It doesn’t matter
It gave me a good feeling.
