Old Alliance – New Alliance

Categories: Characters in the Bible, Life

Under the Old Alliance
When King David was in fear
You assured him of your presence
When he cried out “Hear my prayer!”

When deep depression gripped him
And he felt that he would die
In darkness he reached out for you
And he found you were nearby.

“My enemy’s chasing after me
He’s knocked me to the ground
I run to you, please hide me Lord
So I will not be found.

Show me Lord where I should go
Teach me to do your will
Give me a firm footing as I walk
In the valley or on the hill.

Lead me forward Gracious Spirit
Help me out of this distress
Bring glory to your name, O Lord
By getting me out of this mess.

Every morning let me hear
Your unfailing love to me
I’m trusting in your faithfulness
Your righteousness to see.

Forgive me Lord when I forget
Your great works of the past
Just as the parched land longs for rain
O Lord, increase my thirst.”

Today, as I read those wonderful words
Of how King David trusted you
I repeat the last sentence of his psalm
Say “I am your servant,” too.

Now, as I rest in silent prayer
I hear Jesus speak to me
“King David only knew in part
What has been revealed to you.

You are my servant, but more than that
You are my best friend too
Because I love you so very much
I’ve given my life for you.

Because of my death on Calvary
Your sins’ debt is eternally paid
So you can enter the Holy Place
Speak directly to God, unafraid.

You’re under the New Alliance now
The Old has passed away
The Holy Spirit will sort you out
Give fresh power to live by each day

All that I learned from Father God
I have passed on to you
And all that you ask for in my name
The Father will do for you.

You did not choose me but I chose you
So go and bear fruit that will last
And this my command to all of you
Love each other from the heart.”
