Why Am I Here?

Categories: Characters in the Bible

In the depth of suicidal despair
Elijah was fed by an angel’s care
He had heard God ask
“Why are you here?”
And replied,
“I’m weary, tired and full of fear.”
God, in His grace soothed Elijah and said
“I understand; have breakfast in bed.”

Strengthened; renewed by this food and sleep
Elijah, God’s prophet was able to keep
His feet on the path prepared for him
Carrying God’s message – His answer to sin.
And when work was complete he did not die
God’s chariot of fire took him up to the sky.

Where’s the Lord God of Elijah today
Will He still talk to men if I pray
Yes, for by His death on Calvary
Jesus Christ opened the veil for me
Now I can enter the Holy Place
Speak to Father God – face to face.
Be forgiven, encouraged; receive His love
Be filled afresh with His power from above.
If I silently wait I’ll hear His voice
He will not force me but give me the choice
To work for Him; do His will
Bring hope and joy to those who still
Haven’t heard Him speak but earnestly seek
An answer to why they are here.
