Trees

Categories: Time, Trees

It’s winter
Today I’ve been admiring trees
Stark beauty, branches without leaves
And once again I contemplate
Their uncomplaining stillness
As they prepare themselves to wait and wait
For spring.

Eventually with the warmth and joy of the sun
They all begin to flourish. One by one
Tiny buds burst and put on a show
Happily letting everyone know
That although the winter was hard and long
They have life within and they break forth in song
Bringing hope and expectancy, anticipating
Summer.

After a wonderful time of giving fruit to all
Summer gradually fades away and so begins the fall
Leaves quietly dropping off, falling to the ground
Seasons all now passed they recommence their annual round.

Now reflecting on these wonderful plants called trees
I am learning many lessons about hardship and ease.
I will move into the future and like them be
Content; accept each season of my life gratefully
Be it the hardness of winter, waiting alone
Or the fruitfulness of summer and being right in the zone.

Lord, I ask that you will help me be
In every season of my life, like a tree.
