I see you approaching
A towel wrapped around
I can’t believe it
I fall to the ground.
Never Lord, never!
You won’t wash my feet
I won’t allow it
It’s so indiscreet.
“You don’t understand”
I hear Jesus say
“Unless I wash you
You’ll have no part
In all the workings
Of my heart.”
Then Lord wash my feet
I want to have
A part with you;
Take away my pride
Give me your grace
To willingly accept
What in your love
You want to do.
I want to serve you
Every day of my life
But you know that, Lord
You know my heart
Help me to submit
Let you wash my feet
To know the wondrous love
Your cleansing imparts.
In my turn then
I’ll be able to do
In humility all that you
Are asking of me
For when my feet are washed
I’ll be completely filled
With your fullness, my teacher
Lord wash my feet!
