A baby should not be born to die
But I know one who was and why
This child was born near Jerusalem
There was great celebration when he came
For shepherds who were watching sheep by night
Were startled by angels surrounded by light
Who told them to go to a stable to find
The one who’d bring pardon & peace for mankind.
This divine child grew to be a man
Laid down his life so that anyone can
By believing, receiving his sacrifice for sin
Be fully forgiven and enter in
To the very presence of God above
By his grace and unconditional love.
So now every day I’ll remember the one
Who was born to die and in wonder I’ll come
To give my thanks and praise; worship, adore
The Son of God, Jesus, for evermore.
