The Rod of God

Categories: God

Old and just like a discarded stick
Of no use; just thrown away
Moses, at eighty, felt just like this
Till God appeared to give new purpose that day.

God commanded Moses, “Take off your shoes
For where you’re standing is holy ground.”
Obediently, Moses did what he was asked
Then a divine calling in life he found.

God could see and knew what Moses held
But asked, “What is that in your hand?”
“My shepherd’s rod, just a stick,” Moses said
“I will use it. It will help you to stand.”

“Help you to stand against the enemy
I’ll use your rod; show what I can do.
Keep holding the rod, I’ll do miracles
I promise to protect; be with you.”

By the power of God, the rod became a snake
Was used to dived the sea too
Water flowed out from a very dry rock
People were amazed at what God could do.

Today I may learn from the story of Moses
When I give what’s in my hand to God
He will take any small thing I surrender
Turn it into His own powerful Rod.
